THE IDEA

Make flooring the hero of the design

Moving into a larger warehouse facility, Whanganui-based food packaging distributor Unipak wanted a statement flooring design for their new office space.

‘One of the challenges was selecting flooring that could serve as both a functional and aesthetic feature,’ says designer Sarah Langford, director of Interior Creative. ‘Working with Advance, I found the perfect carpet tiles in the BLOQ NEG range, which became a big feature of the space.’

THE DESIGN

Tying everything into a natural, eco-conscious theme

With a lobby, boardrooms, a showroom and several meeting spaces, the 300-sqm office allows for both focused work and team collaboration. Throughout, Sarah’s design combines tones and texture to reflect the company’s ethos and capture the natural world.

‘Unipak’s emphasis is on sustainable, plant-based products, and the walls and ceilings are accented with materials that tie back to the natural and eco-conscious theme.

‘A combination of slate grey at the entrance, mustard accents in collaborative spaces, and green details throughout ties back to the brand and creates a warm, friendly atmosphere. The floor pattern, with its intricate contrasts and organic forms, provides visual interest and flow.’

Offering a huge range of carpet tiles, Advance provided Sarah with the opportunity to build her design on the ideal product, both for aesthetics and performance. ‘When I saw the BLOQ product, I knew that it fitted perfectly into the story that I was trying to tell.

‘I came up with an idea of what I wanted, and the team at Advance put together a visual for me to help show ideas to the client. They created a colour layout of all the different products and then coded the tiles to make the laying process easier for the installer.’

THE OUTCOME

An interior that feels energised, welcoming and warm

For Sarah, the flooring makes a bold statement, yet integrates easily with all interior elements.

‘I think sometimes the floor can get a bit lost in the design, and for Unipak I wanted to see it as a hero. Their goal was a place that felt energised and welcoming and warm. The BLOQ carpet tile collection gave us a cost-effective way to inject a design mindset from the start, with complementary and contrasting colours and textures defined from there.’
