The Idea

Striking the perfect balance

Fitting out their new Christchurch office, property services company Savills wanted a look that would complement a multi-use area in which to meet and entertain clients. With carefully selected carpet tiles from Advance Flooring, they have struck the perfect note.

‘Savills sought a “residential” feel that was still corporate,’ says Ella van der Lingen, interior designer at architects Sheppard & Rout. ‘The interior needed to reflect their professionalism, yet still be an inviting space for their clients.’

THE SPACE

Carpet tiles elevate visual appeal

With floor to ceiling windows in the client-facing areas, the designers have contrast. Mid-grey carpet tiles are laid at alternating right angles, creating a subtle chequerboard effect as the light plays over them.

‘When you install carpet tiles over a large area, they can sometimes lack visual interest,’ says Ella. ‘We chose these carpet tiles due to their mottled, linear texture, which gives them more interest and a premium look. We were after something light, warm and relaxing, and these carpet tiles cover all those aspects.’

THE BENEFIT

Tactile and versatile design

These carpet tiles are woven with a tactile and visually structured surface, featuring a proportional pattern that reflects design ideas of openness, calmness and composure. Made from solution‑dyed nylon for colour‑fastness, they are available in 18 natural pastel colours that complement each other across the range, allowing for endless pattern‑making options.

‘Advance are always timely with their responses,’ says Ella. ‘Our questions are answered straightaway, and samples are delivered almost instantly. They always cater to what we’re looking for on different projects.’

“The tiles worked really well alongside the timber flooring. They feel great underfoot and bring the residential feel we were going for.”
