THE IDEA

Located at 211 High Street, Chorus' new Christchurch workplace represents a significant milestone for both the organisation and the city. As the anchor tenant within one of Christchurch's most sustainable commercial developments, the project marks Chorus' return to the central city and reinforces its commitment to innovation, resilience and long-term investment in New Zealand's digital infrastructure.

The vision was to create a workplace that reflects the evolving nature of work while supporting a strong culture of connection, collaboration and innovation. Situated within a landmark mass timber building, the project contributes to Christchurch's ongoing regeneration story while creating an exceptional everyday experience for its users.

THE DESIGN

The interior design, led by Warren and Mahoney, builds upon the warmth and character of the exposed timber structure, creating a contemporary workplace that feels both refined and welcoming. Natural materials, generous access to daylight and a carefully curated material palette establish a strong connection between the architecture and interior environment. Atlanta and Thrive carpet tiles were selected to complement the natural timber aesthetic while helping define different workplace settings and supporting the human-centred approach that sits at the heart of the design.

THE SOLUTION

Advance Flooring partnered with the project team to deliver flooring solutions that balanced design intent with the performance requirements of a contemporary workplace. Atlanta and Thrive carpet tiles were selected for their ability to perform in high-traffic commercial environments while supporting acoustic comfort, maintenance efficiency and sustainability objectives. The modular flooring system delivers flexibility, durability and long-term value while helping create a comfortable and productive workplace.

THE OUTCOME

The completed Chorus office at 211 High Street delivers a workplace that successfully aligns people, performance and sustainability. Employees now enjoy a highly functional and engaging environment that supports flexible ways of working while fostering connection between teams. Flooring plays a significant role in the success of the project, contributing to occupant comfort, acoustic performance and the overall visual cohesion of the space.

Ian Hutchinson, Principal at Warren and Mahoney, commented:
