THE IDEA

A renewed heart for a growing diocese

The new Chanel Centre and Cathedral Hall was conceived as the pastoral and administrative heart of the Catholic Diocese of Hamilton—bringing together teams previously dispersed across multiple sites into one cohesive, welcoming environment. Completed in early 2026 within the wider Catholic precinct on Clyde Street, the single-storey building sits between St Mary’s Chapel and Marian Catholic School, reinforcing its role as a connective hub rather than a stand‑alone office building.

Rather than adopting a conventional commercial typology, the design team sought to create a space that reflected the values of the Diocese: hospitality, care, humility and community. The brief called for interiors that felt calm and residential in character, while still meeting the durability, acoustic and maintenance demands of a busy workplace serving staff, clergy and visitors alike.

THE DESIGN

Residential warmth within a commercial framework.

Designed by TEAM Architects Hamilton, the Chanel Centre & Cathedral Hall balances contemporary architecture with a human scale, using materiality and spatial planning to soften the experience of a workplace environment. A mix of open‑plan workspaces, private offices, meeting rooms and shared pastoral areas required a flooring strategy capable of subtly defining zones without interrupting visual continuity.

Advance Flooring worked closely with the design team to supply a combination of commercial carpet tiles and tretford® carpet, Neoflex Rubber Flooring and Gecko Entrance carpet all selected for their ability to deliver different functional outcomes while maintaining a seamless aesthetic throughout the building's.

THE SOLUTION

Flooring that supports longevity, comfort and care.

As a central workplace for diocesan leadership and staff, the Chanel Centre & Cathedral Hall required flooring solutions that could withstand daily wear while supporting acoustic comfort and well‑being. The combination of commercial carpet tiles and tretford® carpet, Neoflex Rubber Flooring and Gecko Entrance carpet achieves this balance—delivering durability, sound absorption and visual warmth in equal measure.

THE OUTCOME

A cohesive, welcoming environment built to last.

By combining Advance Flooring commercial carpet tiles and tretford® carpet, Neoflex Rubber Flooring and Gecko Entrance carpet, the project demonstrates how commercial flooring solutions can be used creatively to deliver a residential, seamless aesthetic—one that feels both dignified and deeply human.
