THE IDEA

A new global headquarters grounded in people and place.

Located at 124 Halsey Street in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter, Beca’s new global headquarters — Te Paeroa o te Kawau — brings together approximately 1,400 Auckland-based people into a single, purpose-built workplace designed to support collaboration, innovation and wellbeing.

Spanning three interconnected buildings, the project reflects a shift toward more flexible, people-focused environments, enabling teams to work as “One Beca” while strengthening connections with clients and the wider design community.

Sustainability sits at the core of the project, with the building targeting 6 Green Star, 5-star NABERS NZ and Platinum WELL certifications, establishing a benchmark for environmentally responsible and human-centred workplace design.

Within this context, every material decision — including flooring at the point of entry — plays a role in supporting these ambitious environmental and performance outcomes.

THE DESIGN

A seamless arrival aligned with architectural intent.

The design of Te Paeroa o te Kawau is driven by a strong narrative connecting people, culture and place. Developed in collaboration with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, the building responds to its harbour-edge context while delivering a highly functional, contemporary workplace.

At the ground plane, entrance zones are carefully resolved to ensure a seamless transition between exterior and interior environments. These threshold spaces must accommodate high daily foot traffic while maintaining the clarity and material quality expected of a premium commercial building.

Advance Flooring supplied CoralTread entrance matting systems, selected for their ability to integrate cleanly within the architectural floor plane while supporting the refined material palette of the interior.

With a low-profile aluminium construction and selection of insert colours, CoralTread provides a subtle yet effective transition at the building edge—reinforcing a cohesive, well-resolved arrival experience.

THE SOLUTION

Supporting sustainability and performance at the threshold.

As a key arrival interface, the entrance flooring needed to deliver on both environmental and functional requirements. CoralTread was specified for its proven durability in high-traffic environments, as well as its advanced sustainability credentials.

Notably, CoralTread is Declare certified and compliant with Living Building Challenge Red List requirements, making it one of the few entrance matting systems globally aligned with the most rigorous material health standards. It is also 100% PVC free, supporting the project’s broader goals around reducing harmful materials.

From a performance perspective, the aluminium and polyamide construction provides effective dirt and moisture removal, protecting interior floor finishes and maintaining safe, clean circulation throughout the building. Its engineered profile also accommodates rolling loads, ensuring smooth movement for occupants and visitors entering the space.

THE OUTCOME

A first impression aligned with a future-focused workplace.

The completed Beca headquarters sets a new benchmark for workplace design in New Zealand—bringing together sustainability, cultural narrative and flexible working environments within a single cohesive development.

At the point of entry, CoralTread plays a critical supporting role. Its integration into the building’s arrival sequence ensures that the first interface between the city and workplace is both high-performing and aligned with the project’s environmental values.

By supplying a low-profile, durable and PVC-free entrance system, Advance Flooring helped deliver a solution that supports both the day-to-day operation of the building and its long-term sustainability ambitions.

We make flooring easy. Design-led entrance solutions that perform, protect and align with the most ambitious sustainability goals.
